The Perfect Metaphor For Our Current Economic Operating System As A Whole

Because you can't open it up either without destroying it. Whether you mean to fix it, or simply just know more about it in order to make more cogent plans for the future.

It's a case, of course, of both its inherent "planned obsolescence," as well as the whole can of worms known as "proprietary information." And of the two, I would have to say that the latter is far and away the worst.

Heaven forbid that a Democracy should have the information it needs when it needs it; rather than the information best suited to the needs of individual players. And so the dynamic becomes the process of both sharpening yourself to undercut (backstab, throat slash, or what ever else works) the other guy, and then practicing the dance of blades to see who's left standing. All the while leaving few to contemplate, let alone appreciate, the overall utility of all this bloodletting in the first place.

How lovely. Horrendous social violence done in the name of the disorganized chaos proponents of the current economic operating system call competition. Yes, isn't that just so in the best interests of the rest of us.
